I had a dream I was at video store, looking at video about a woman convinced that one of the elevators in her apartment is a miniture gas chamber. Somehow, upon waking, I had a list of potential short story titles. Let's see if it pans out.

So I left work early and get my eyes examined. I need weaker glasses. I also spent a lot of time trying to focus thanks to the dilation test and wearing real goofy disposable sunglasses. I think a T employee waved me through because of them.

To Try for the Sun looks like it could make a good fiction piece.

I was reading a review of the Atom and His Package album, and one song title made me laugh like a hyena while giving joy to my heart: 'The Palestinians are Not the Same Thing As The Rebel Alliance, Jackass.' Maybe I will write a companion song called "The Palestinians are Not the Same Thing As the Daleks, Dickhead." Not as an answer song, but as an amplification of a point. Slogans and loose characterizations in place of arguments are not going to end the conflict in that area of the world. When I figure out what will, I'll let you know.

Some articles were about that song.

Decoy: I've had the chance to hear the new record 'Attention Blah Blah Blah' and to be honest I've heard of you, but never heard your music before. I found myself completely endulged in most every song, especially 'The Palestinians are Not the Same Thing As The Rebel Alliance, Jackass', what led you to write this song?

Atom: Hey thanks Aaron. The song is less about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, than about the kind of people who adopt a point of view without really knowing a lot about the subject at hand. I've met a lot of 'leftist' or 'punk' folks who have embraced the Palestinian cause without REALLY knowing anything about the conflict. It's a song about those people... not about the ones who may disagree with me on the subject. It's just very disillusioning to hear people who, at least in theory, are supposed to be more enlightened, more critical and selective about what they're told, be the very ones who will swallow catch phrases without really absorbing any substance.

"The Palestinians Are NOT the Same Thing as the Rebel Alliance, Jackass" is not about the Middle East, not exactly. "The situation's really complex and I don't think I could do everything justice while rhyming and singing," he says. "It's stupid anyway to try to tackle that in two minutes."

He seems to have a particular contempt for those he meets through music who can regurgitate a clever catch phrase but haven't done the homework to back it up in conversation. Quoth "The Palestinians ": "Add inane, hip arguments when it comes your turn/ All the while weakening and invalidating legit concerns." It's a testament to his skills on the mic that he's able to enunciate such scathing criticism within the context of a rock 'n' roll song.

Get out of my head, slash bunnies!

Somehow, Wolf pointed me to this post in dot_cattiness. It made me realize something. Purim, Saint Patrick's Day and the deadline for pre-emptive strike is on the same day. This is how I am observing all three: drinking.
