Dear Reverend Wooden and assorted other folks:

If you really want to save the meaning of Christmas as the commentartion of someone born to a poor unwed (okay, engaged) mother in a manager, don't spend $7600 on a committee to make stores say 'Merry Christmas.' You know that charity thing? Consider that. Go to church on Christmas Day, even. Does your denomination have midnight Mass? I thought it was a wonderful as a child, to celebrate someone's birth (if not birthday) exactly at the minute of the day.

96% of the country celebrates Christmas
Does the phrase 'tyranny of the majority' mean anything to you other than your twisted idea of 'democracy'?

How backasswards is it to push for sacred music to be played in stores, workplaces, and schools? How insulting is it for denomiations that do not make a big celebration of Christmas or who do not celebrate it at all (Jehovah's Witnesses)? Not to mention that the number of Jews, Muslims, pagans and Buddhists total more than 4%. And how about those atheists and agnostics.

If anything, I don't think that public places go all the way in representing all holidays. Play Muzak versions of Hannukah songs! Get Wiccan rounds to sing drippy songs about holly and ivy! How about a lesson on the origins of Saturnalia and Yule? I think we can do with some Epiphany sales, don't you? OK, maybe not, but we could bring Boxing Day to these shores.

I do not know how to deal with the people I do know, the people who celebrate Christmas and mean no harm? Who don't care what stores have as their signs as long as they get what they want quickly? I joke about wishing them a merry Saturnalia, but that may confuse more than enlighten.

People throwing fits over acknowledgements of how other people (who mean no harm) live as 'political correctness' has always been a trigger. Now they are ruining the holiday season for it? Fuck it. When I get my pledge from PFAW, I am going to give them a nice donation. I'm donating it in the name of friends and family who can practice their religion in peace thanks to the separation of church and state.

Now, on to other news. I got the addresses (and the addresses for the last set of cards), so I may send them real soon now. I should be going to bed, but I was promised dinner.
