It's a joke, actually. One that made me queasy. I reassured myself that, hey, at least I opted for 'gay nerd who dived into his intellectual/artistic interests to starve off admitting he likes men and now is out as an ornery bastard with a PhD/Oscar and a model boyfriend' stereotype.
