Visited Hitchens, saw Caligula. Was it good? Hmm, you watch it for the full-frontal nudity and to laugh at the absurd dialogue and sexual escapades, not for enlightenment or expanding your classical education. However, I cannot complain about historical inaccuracy, since the Roman emperors tended to be that fucked up, and more. Pitiful few scenes of m/m, compared to f/f, but hey, Bob Guccione made the effort. The sentorial brothel and 'conquest' of Britian, I take it, was his attempts at political satire. It was the early 80s after all. I don't regret passing on The Wicker Man or Harold and Maude. Hey, you get to see Peter O'Toole with the clap (Plays Emperor Tiberius), necrophilia, and Sir John Gielgud dying in a clear bath.

A warning: if you are near a decent cult section, you will not only find the Caligula with Malcolm MacDowell, but many sequels and B-movie versions, including the 1996 version, and movies on Nero and Messalina.

But the people I am staying threatened to teach me Mah-Jong, and I might take them up on it.
