Updating my food tracker is an exercise in frustration.

I planned to stay over my mom's house before treking to Thanksgiving family gathering. However, I had been sucked into doing stuff at home. At least my sister is picking me up.

Oh God, people are getting into a conniption fit over tired store clerks wishing people "Happy Holidays" again? That was the basis of my least favorite Foamy the Squirrel cartoon, but whatever. I'd think that the good Christians of America are more worried about high fuel bills and credit card debt than the proper acknowledgement of Jesus' traditional birthday (which seems closer to spring going by what was written, really). But hey, panic brings out the purses on all sides.

When I was a teenager, I thought the idea that there were other winter holidays along with Christmas was wonderful. Everyone should enjoy hearth and sugary treats however they want. Plus, when I was Catholic, keeping track of the events before Jesus' birthday during Advent kept me in suspense. Speaking of which, why aren't these guys promoting that? Instead of running all over chain stores with robotic mutterings of "seasoning's greetings," pray, perform charity, and think about the stories? Oh right, they don't know the origins of the holiday, nor that the US didn't always celebrate, so why expect them to know anything about their religion?

I don't think I will run into people who say "Merry Christmas" as a culture war cry rather than a sincere greeting. One person cracked that wishing people a 'happy non-denominational winter holiday' will 'make them look at you like you killed their god.' I'm not that combative. Also, none of them feel like my holiday yet--just occasions that family and friends celebrate. I join because it makes all content. Stressed, but content.
