I had a romantic notion of finding some area dark enough to see the constellations if not the Milky Way and taking a train there. I would set up a tent, contemplate how small I am and figuring out the signal to noise ratio in my thoughts, find stars and planets, and huddle for warmth in my sleeping bag when I can't keep my eyes open.

See, I got interested in astronomy as a kid, and had maps and stuff. But it is a pain to have this maps of seasonal constellations and not being able to see a damn thing because of all the streetlights. I love the city, but some parts of it grind me down.

I go to the Dark Sky website, and find most of the places 60-100 miles from where I am are off the coast of Provincetown. So, I have to take up boating now?

Going by clicking random points on land, I have to go near Brattleboro, VT or North Windham, ME to do that. And by near, I mean 'I recognize this town, but it's miles from there.'

Gah.
