Got a Dan Simmons novel when I meant to get some cheap CDs. Most of the horror novels at Pandemonium look sucky, but that is less the store's fault and more that publishing companies really like variations on vampires and creepy house stories. Pandemonium does not suck otherwise.

Also read a book on the history of Zionism. Yes, kids, there was a time when it was not synmonous with "insane Third Temple activists who beat up on Palestinans" God knows that definition gives too much fodder for "insane Wahabist fanatics who shoot at Israelis." The chapter on anti-Zionist haridim (including the Satmar) (along with discussion of the post-Zionist writings) and how despite getting out of the hell holes of Europe into Israel, still scream about the godless evil of Zionism. After they told their followers to stay behind despite more of their friends and family getting killed. Is it rude to scream "Fuck you, you blood-stained hypocrite" to a rabbi?

Yeah, yeah, I'm not Jewish, why am I worried about this? You think virtual reality bubbles orbitting slightly above ground with images of palm trees, sunshine, friendly neighbors and big shiny Al-Asqa/Third Temple would be a good solution? Or am I on crack?

I'm reading also some essays based on "True Names." I still got some things to say about Tim Mays' essay about strong crypto, despite the fact I am mathematically inept and still don't use PGP.

I often ask myself how much I believe in religious prophecies. When I was younger and much of an ardent Catholic, I read Revelations in one setting, wondering if all these things will come to pass. After several 'false alarms' of whores of Babylon and seven-headed dragons, I can only conclude prophecies do offer a window to more possiblities, but humans are too prone to seeing connections between things they see and things that might be (remember the whole 'two brothers' Nostredamus hoo-haa?). I am terribly afraid of folks thinking they have permission from God to rape, pillage and burn.

If you work toward a prophecy, it might come true, assuming fewer folks working toward an opposite prophecy.

On more pleasant subjects, you think I should get the Cocteau Twins' Garlands?
