So, I get an announcement of a user community horrified at the proliferation of trance-influenced goth music played at goth clubs, and this blinding hybrid of folks called cybergoths. Is that what the loud doofy music I heard in the back room of Club Asslimiate was? What does it sound like anyway? I've been away from dancing for a while.
I consider myself pretty open minded about music. I could learn to like stuff like VNV Nation and Apopalymstic Berzerk along with old goth, industrial, psychedelica, power pop, P-Funk (a band, and prolly a whole genre in and out of itself) and Irish folk. Most of the people I know who like these stuff seemed to be with-it aging club kids, and I respect their musical judgement. On the negative side, I don't think I'd like getting hit with a glow stick, or some neon-afflicted fool laughing at my black dress. Hey, I'm sheep, but I am well-dressed sheep, unlike your baggy-pants self. I guess PLUR doesn't apply if you're not a candy graver.
Parts of the new aesthetic seem okay, but I'd like there to be more than one on the dance floor, you know.
In the end, I think it will pass. I remember being very pissed off at Marilyn Manson and boring 'vampyres.' I remember reading stereotypes of role-players in goth websites. And aren't some folks whining about glitter and pink as a goth accessory? Maybe they will get all bored, and we will grouse about people in Renaissance garb, the proliferation of oubds in new goth music, and how all these emo kids have started going to goth clubs and every new dang song has a gang chorus. :)
