"And most important of all, I realize that it's wrong for a celebrity to voice a political opinion, unless they're Charlie Daniels, Clint Black, Merle Haggard, Barbara Mandrell, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, Travis Tritt, Hank Williams Jr, Amy Grant, Larry Gatlin, Crystal Gayle, Reba McEntire, Lee Greenwood, Lorrie Morgan, Anita Bryant, Mike Oldfield, Ted Nugent, Wayne Newton, Dick Clark, Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Dixie Carter, Victoria Jackson, Charleton Heston, Fred Thompson, Ben Stein, Bruce Willis, Kevin Costner, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Bo Derek, Rick Schroeder, George Will, Pat Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly, Joe Rogan, Delta Burke, Robert Conrad or Jesse Ventura."

Although it is weird to agree with Fred Durst. I hate his band.

And instead of linking to some story of a brawl over not standing for "Proud to Be an American" (has it become the national anthem when I was asleep) out of some misplaced concern I am protraying country fans unfairly, the guy who gave out that link has some thoughts on perception, reality and war.

Emma explains nationalism and Chirac.

Borges and Neruda, two of my favorite poets, get mentioned in this post. So does politicization of literature, and why it's so awful. Which is something that struck me in the whole Amiri Baraka at Yale argument that was going on in some community. He had his good moments, but now his poetry is, in my opinion, sucktastic. Whatever his thoughts on Jewish people and Israel only reinforces that suckiness. On the other hand, I like reading Eliot, even if he doesn't like me.

About Barry's lastest cartoon.

John sez "I read the comic as a litany of idolatries: Imperialism, Mammon, Sexism, Homophobia, Consumerism, Fundamentalism; and then a beliver in the genuine article being yelled at by Jingoism, and then a believer in the genuine article hiding out from the wicked idolaters, a la the prophet Elijah hiding out from nasty old King Ahab."

Indeed.
