Please, someone, explain to me how I can ramble about god and peace and love and read point and laugh communities?

And [livejournal.com profile] weirdjews got a mention, yo. Let's not do that again, eh?

From ljdrama dot org

"And as for nerds and LJs, I think it's safe to assume that if the technology had existed many of the great nerds of history would have maintained a LJ as quite a few were notable and prolific correspondents."

And probably gotten so involved with LJ drama that they never did their neat and wonderful stuff. Just think of the flamewars HP Lovecraft would have gotten in. Richard Feynmann would have been the most popular guy in the debate communities.

I need to go to bed, dammit.

aruru in journalfen makes me feel a little dumb about the my_fandom stuff:

"The original "My Fandom" icons, which I think were in HP and Smallville fandoms, were totally created to mock fandom generalizations. But the trend got picked up by a lot of people who, to quote a friend "Emily Litella-ized" the original intent. (Emily Litella was a classic Saturday Night Live character played by Gilda Radner, whose schtick was that she'd hear something incorrectly, then run to extremes with the incorrect version.) A lot of people saw one or two "My Fandom" icons, didn't know the story behind the snark, and ran of to make their own, and somewhere a long the way a lot of the irony has been lost. There's been posts in the Buffy icon community where "My fandom" is used purely as a substitute for the subect of a genre-specific quote, like "My fandom rescues puppies." There's still some of the original meta-snark out there, but it's been hugely watered down."

Oh okay. Makes me feel a little dumb that I didn't get that.
