I ditched a barbecue to organize papers.

I ditched organizing papers to go play games.

I ditched playing games to eat out.

Or maybe go and do it anyway.

I've got to explain what is going on to the person who invited me to the BBQ (I called to cancel, but I haven't told him the news).
