1. What is thantology and what does it mean to you?

The study of how different cultures deal with death. Not just the funeral rituals and beliefs in an afterlife (or lack of one), but how the survivors should grieve, the attitudes toward different types of death and how the deceased should be remembered.

By the way, there is a fledging site that explains more of it.

2. What do you see as the strengths and weaknesses of a polyamorous relationship?

For me personally, the strength of a polyamourous relationship is being able to have different connections with different people without misunderstanding. The weakness? When you're afraid of rejection, communication can be a pain in the ass, but so necessary.

3. What sort of events do you like to attend?

Concerts by local bands, street fairs, informal gatherings of goofy people, parties held by friends, mockings of bad movies. I need to go to more open mics.

4. How or where do you find peace?

I find peace by meditating on beauty.

5. Are you romantic?

I think so, but I tend to be odd about it. I find looking at flowers romantic as getting as flowers.

[livejournal.com profile] lilituc asked me.

1. Recently it came up in a conversation that there's something "odd" or unusual about women who are interested in reading/writing about gay men (and their sex lives). What are your thoughts on this, or what is it about for you?

You mean other than being not conventionally pretty (though I do think I am attractive) and interested in esoteric stuff?

Well, I had something of a head start in reading about gay and bisexual men and their love lives since 1) reading the LGBT press, you come across writings by gay and bisexual men about their sex lives (and other stuff too), 2) I dated at least two bisexual men. Their questions about love, sex, homophobia, religion, the line between friendship and love, etc, became my questions too.

One thing I notice about slash that I like and the cracked out epic I am writing is that it is assumed that friendship is the basis and a major component of a love affair, be it between a man and a man, a man and woman, and a woman and a woman. I think that in mainstream fiction, antagonism is assumed to be bound up in romantic love.

2. What would be your ideal job? Why?

I have no idea of a job title, but I think one where I can do a lot of reading and writing and only some social interaction (mostly with a small group).

3. What are your personal views on religion? On your religion?

For me, religion is one long series of questioning and the process of finding one answer in everything. It is also a process of trying to grow up and find ideas that grow with me.

When I was younger, I was big in reading about Kabbalah, I am holding off on that until I feel I have more of a background in Hebrew and Judaism. The idea of an infinite, singuluar divinity found in multiple ways is still there in my mind.

4. What kinds of things do you learn on public transportation?

I learn about keeping in the background, courtesy and sometimes, people can feel comfortable about saying the weirdest stuff on the train.

Okay, comment here if you want me to interview you. :)
