[livejournal.com profile] atalanta asked those interested some questions. I decided to answer a few.

1. How do you feel about contemporary 20something novels?

I haven't read enough of them to tell, being that I reach for SF/F when I reach for fiction.
Anyone got any good ones to recommend?

2. If you could enhance one particular ability, physical or mental, what would it be?

Easy. Picking up on non-verbal cues by people.

3. Do you like the idea of living in a small intentional community with friends? Do you think it would work?

I tried it, would do it if I have some space of my own, but I think I have to work on diplomacy and conflict resolution before I try it again.

4. How have your attitudes about sex changed since age 16?

I am less afraid of bondage and experimentation, but at the same time, I do not often experience the fugue state of being really aroused and really frustrated.

5. If you were going to be a scientist of some kind, what would you study? Specifics, if you can give them, not just "bio."

Neuroscience, specifically altered states of consciousness and its effects of language comphrension and production. That's right, I'll interview drunk people with aphasia. Baring that, neural net modeling of semantic-pragmatic disorder and other language/reading disorders.

6. If you were going to be a humanities professor of some kind, what would your research involve?

Symbolist and Decadent poetry, maybe some stylistics and speech act theory work. That might suck all of the mystery, though. Um, Jewish mysticism and its influence on modern-day writers, both Jewish and not, with detours into Haskalah fiction writers that use supernatural beliefs as a method of satire?

7. If you had a Familiar, what would it be?

A dwarf ocelot
