As many problems I found with Bowling for Columbine, the outrage meter isn't really high. I just cannot get the anger up, even if the whole 'funding the Taliban' and 'bombed an asprin factory' bits make me itch and wish more people read Dan Kennedy. Maybe I just hear so much lying from the current administration. I am just trying to work the outrage about Heston not clarifying what he meant (hell, that cartoon made the point of white folks being quite scared of blacks and Native Americans, and really, his remark could have been construed as a comment on that, but somehow, between the two of them, it never gets clarified). Not quite doing it, although a mean part of me giggled about him chasing Dick Clark.

I do appreciate one big point: one big reason for gun violence is fear. Matt Stone talking about the academic and social pressures in his 'redneck white bread town' links nicely to talk of media coverage breeding wide-spread and unwarranted panic. It doesn't link as well to the other parts of the documentary (docucommentary?). Nor is the link to Lockhead Martin made very well.

Then I went wandering on to some leftie blog quoting some rightie blog saying since 75% of Palestinians support suicide bombing, it is okay to carpet bomb them. Pardon the paraphrasing.

Then someone posted, "Just as a point of information, Orion, that's only 75% of the 1,318 surveyed, not 75% of the population, despite what statistical theories say. I tend to be wary of poll data, especially when it concerns a politically charged issue like this."

Apparently, they also weren't told the people dying in bombing were civilians, but were told it was a resturant. Sloppy, sloppy.

One good thing came out of it: someone suggested the Israeli government could both hunt down Hamas and strengthen the PA. I don't think it will happen.

I still want the settlers vs. Hamas steel cage match. No, no, I don't want the Nobel Prize, I just want the merchandising rights. :)

If you are talking about I/P and you're sounding like this, it's time to consider fine-tuning your arguments. If I get a similiar satiric newspaper with the opposite POV, I'll let you know.

On that note, I gotta go to bed.
