Last night
Oct. 26th, 2003 09:43 amHere's their website. Here's the best review of them so far.
My review of the concert last night.
Jaz Coleman moved like a cross between Cesare and a shaman. Anyone in black and white makeup and a spider-fronted sack would look foolish, but it was appropriate for him. Geordie was amused, but kept at playing wonderful, propulsive riffs (I count him as an underrated guitarist, next to Steve Bartek, among others). Raven had no expression, apart from a middle finger when someone flashed him the peace sign. Dave Grohl wasn't there, but whatever.
Hey,
nilchance and
beanside, "Death and Resurrection Show" made me think of the world surrounding clan Ragnarok. I'll type the lyrics if you want. "You'll Never Get to Me" may be another one of my 'I have hope, fuck you, I won't lie down and die" song. "Total Invasion" may be the best angry song about Iraq, but "Seeing Red" comes close. "Dark Forces" is a return to occultic-political paranoia (I know of no other song where both a ritual to invoke your Holy Guardian Angel and Bohemia Grove are mentioned) that sent Coleman to Iceland. "Implant" is just paranoid, frighteningly convincing however. 'You don't want to protect, you just want to fucking control!' "Asteroid" has beats as driving and inevitable as a hurling messenger of prophecy.
Oh and the setlist, actually gacked from someone who saw them in DC.
Communion
Requiem
Total Invasion
Wardance
Blood on Your Hands
Change
Seeing Red
Fall of Because
Follow the Leaders
Death and Resurrection Show
Kings and Queens
Wait
Whiteout
Pssyche
Encore: Pandemonium
Meanwhile, I have a stuffed nose and people in Boston were real happy about the Marlins winning.
