Nov. 26th, 2003 02:47 pmSpeaking of campus conservatives and the people they bring on to speak, Jesse tells of a couple of them missing a clue. And then there is a face we all know and love (and he's got an Internet law named after him!)
"As I've said before, I think that it should be a plank of the Democratic platform to end affirmative action and replace it with a broad-based effort to improve the lives of the poor across America, particularly in terms of education and employment, particularly (but not solely) minorities, who are disproportionately affected by poverty and lack of opportunity.
Of course, when I tried to bring this up at a Ward Connerly speech at Swarthmore, I was shouted down by one of his twelve supporters who shrieked at me, "THERE ARE PLENTY OF POOR WHITE PEOPLE!" Which, of course, took my point, safely set it in another county altogether, and then missed it by a country hectare."
