Best description of what I want to do from someone I haven't talked to.

"I have decided what I want to do as a career, going back to my first love of all that is creative; co-opting another's terminology, I want to be a creative careerist. This means that I want to sing, dance, write, take photos, perform, sculpt, design, and otherwise have too many fingers in too many creative pies -- and hopefully get paid for it."

Actually, what I want to do is sing, write, take photos, perform, research, translate, travel and otherwise have too many fingers in too many creative pies -- and hopefully get paid for it.

It is now a matter of how to focus on that. I feel like I am wasting my time with dorky fanfiction, but at the same time, I like the strokes, I like the melding of different obsessions, it is just that I can never get it published anywhere but here.

Plus, I feel like I am too old to be this ambitious. I have an uncomfortable rut with the office work, but at least it pays. Everyone else who have some sort of freelance artistic career decided early on to get degrees in art and get advanced degrees in writing, and I concentrated on what jobs I could do and paid okay, but had nothing to do with what I wanted to do. I compromised and I still got screwed.
