The only times I will talk about

To quote Atrios' blog, because Thumb says it better than me:

"Want to suck the joy out of your favorite neo-con at work? Try this: Our UPS driver, a real Gun in One Hand Bible in the Other Republican struts in yesterday, happy as could be.

"Heeeey! You hear they got Saddam?"

Me - with straight face: "Yeah, this is great news! The attacks should stop now, shouldn't they?"

"Uh, I don't know about that . . ."

". . . but we can at least start bringing our troops home, right?"

"Uhhh, [changes subject] but hey, the Iraqis are sure happy about it."

"And I'm sure they'd like to go about putting their country back together now, too. So, now that Saddam is caught, how long do you think until we get to bring our troops home?"

"Uhh, I gotta go."

He didn't have quite the same bounce in his step as he left.

Troll prophylactic: Saddam was a BAD, BAD man and the world is a better place with him in custody. But, at $150,000,000,000, how many more BAD men do we take out next?"

Then again, when I saw the footage of the statue being torn down, I muttered "Let's not go sucking each others' cocks yet." I hope I am not right, although it is not as bad as I feared.

I however will say that Iraqis abroad deserve whatever pleasure they get from this.

And while the Iraqi foreign minister had some blistering words for the UN Security Council, I wonder if 1) people posting that will stop bitching now that Germany and France agreed to forgive their debts (and Australia still hasn't? Does anyone know?) 2) somebody explain to me how Operation Desert Fox would be called appeasing, 3) if they forgot this:

"After the gas attacks on the Kurds

The Prevention of Genocide Act[1988] was introduced by Senators Claiborne Pell, Al Gore, and Jesse Helms in the wake of that attack and passed unanimously in a single day by the Senate.

Unfortunately it was vetoed by the Reagan administration, which continued to give Iraq the red carpet treatment. As late as December 1988, the Reagan Administration was discussing significantly extending the financing agreements it already had in place to support Iraq, particularly in the field of long term loans, to ensure that US suppliers could profit from the post-Iran-Iraq war reconstruction."

Oh, and the Iranians want to bring charges against him too.

I want ICC, I suspect some other countries would like a crack at him. I am trying to resist any snarky comments about whether he still has the receipts for all the weapons the Reagan-Bush administration sold him; maybe he got them mixed up with the French, German and Russian receipts. Don't you hate that?

Someone brings up the Iran-Iraq War (and we sold weapons to them too). Someone else says something about where it is all going: we support one dictator because the other dictator is bad and against us, then that dictator turns on us, so we have to fight against him, so we support another dictator . . . er, you get the picture. Why not push for democratic reform? Otherwise, someone else is going to bite us on our collective asses.

Something else to think about other than if his capture will improve holiday sales.

Oh, and I didn't see the LOTR marathon. I am a dope, because I have to save my money for Arisia and Dresden Dolls concert.
