Jul. 10th, 2005 12:26 pmManray is closing and moving to a new location.
So,
unseelie and
spark99 posted their memories. Brigid did too. Mines are a little more dull.
My first time, coming straight from work, wearing red clowny shoes, red sweater, and blue jeans. Yes, I knew what I was doing, this was before the dress code really went into effect, I was hoping no one would give that much of shit, and was still feeling like a dumbass.
Playing "Amy who fell down the stairs" and having my then-SOs watch me.
Purp pointing at my alt.religion.scientology t-shirt and saying "Ha ha. That's great."
Percy dancing.
Getting a Red Death on my 21st birthday.
Yakking on the couch.
Disco in the front room on Saturday.
Bouncing around and mocking the videos on New Wave Night with
bikergeek and
watercolorblue.
Group mock-medieval dancing to Dead Can Dance.
Wondering if I was dressed right to go out.
People dancing near that steel web, then on the stands.
Getting taken home by someone twice, then never talked to again.
The familiar smell of sweat, fog machines, and somebody's clove cigarettes that sticks on me afterwards.
Being embarrassed at Deli Haus when I realized that 1) the pizza bagels were really big, and 2) so was the Thursdae. Never again.
Going to the first 'Eclectique' night--or am I the only one who remembers that?
Seeing the guy who heads my writer's group in a black polo shirt and jeans.
Staring at the pretty girls and convincing myself none of them want me to keep myself from doing something stupid.
Staring at the people I had unrequited crushes on dancing and feeling sad somehow.
Eric and Angie in coordinated outfits.
Watching the rivetheads dancing and being amused.
Reading international gay listings when really bored. You know, how the men are in Vietnam, what gay nightclubs to go to in Paris, that stuff.
Giggling everytime I cut off conversation to dance, remembering the Anne Gwish strip, zombies stomping to the dance floor and all.
When Chris Ewan played "Under the Milky Way Tonight" and "All Abroad For Mu-Mu Land" in honor of Rozz Williams and Tammy Wynnette.
Mocking the skits after leaving.
"You look like Monica Lewinsky, only dead."
Some very hairy guy in a sheer black nightie.
Seeing Bella Nocte and having them play that song on the Vampire: The Masquerade comp. "Six of you might know this song."
Seeing You Shriek.
Mainly I just remember throwing myself on the dance floor because I was too scared to talk to people, even people I knew on-line. Somewhere along the line, that just didn't work.
PS I am really trying to remember if the Women of Sodom played Manray when I was one of the 'nurses.' I think I'm mixing up Manray with the Middle East. Anyway, I wore a red dress over my costume so I could watch One of Us.
