Name 12 characters you have played in RPGs or fictional characters you have written or favorite fandoms or whatever. Whatever characters you choose, do it before looking at the questions that follow. List your characters numbered 1 to 12, with origin. Once you've picked your 12 characters, look at the questions and answer accordingly. (No peeking until you've picked your characters!) Put your answers behind a LJ-cut.

1 Meg Dunsmuir, part-fae knight errant (fiction)

5 Christine Martineau, Circle of the Crone Mehket 'real estate exorcist' (Vampire: Requiem)
6 Binah Perkel, Pilgrim Avatar and someone who is religious and Zionist and questioning everything she assumed was true. (Unknown Armies)
7 Emily Gilligan, shy and gentle college student trying to deal with addiction among her friends (fiction)
8 Joe Freedman, tall and nerdy musician (fiction)
9 Oliver Palmera, quiet and tortured occultist/librarian (Lovecraftian fic)
10 Bill Magid, brash and sardonic director and Jacob's older brother (Unknown Armies)
11 Mala Russo, the current entity for Death on this plane (fiction)
12 Lev Rachelski/Firesign, Russian-born Blaster with Fire Element powers given through Science, a dandified persona, and an unhappy past. (City of Heroes)

1. Who would make a better college professor, 6 (Binah) or 11 (Mala)? What subjects would they teach?

Binah would be the tough grader who nevertheless gave you plenty of extensions. However, she would veer into her theory involving Midianites and reincarnation, and scare her students. However, many tales of traveling from England to France to Morrocco to Tunisia around Libya via an island off the coast to Egypt to Israel/Palestine will abound. She may get positive student evaluations just for that. Mala is much too shy and self-conscious about her academic skills to lead a class. However, if she has a chance to rely solely on visual aids and improv, she might do it.

Binah would teach journalism, comparative religions, Middle East history, or some unholy combination of all three. Wanna-be warriors against the 'academic left' will be utterly confused by her stated positions (she's a religious Zionist who wants a seperate nation for them Ay-rabs?), and flustered by all those freaking articles she cites.

Mala would be happy teaching drawing or digital illustration.

2. Do you think 4 (Sam Halliday) is hot? How hot?

He was based on someone I had a crush on a long time ago, and a lot of his appearance and behavior is based on him, but his looks are much more faded.

3. 12 (Firesign) sends 8 (Joe Freedman) on a mission. What is it, and does it succeed?

The only way it would succeed is if Firesign sent Joe to fetch some Archie McPhee toys. Or help him carry his bulk purchases of Russian junk food.

4. What is or would be 9's (Oliver Palmera's) favorite book?

Something creepy, esoteric, and influenced by one secret society or another.

5. Would it make more sense for 2 (Caera) to swear fealty to 6 (Binah), or the other way around?

They much perfer equal partnerships, and besides, two visually impaired and deeply emotional women would rather not get into contracts they cannot get out of.

6. For some reason, 5 (Christine) is looking for a roommate. Should she share a studio apartment with 9 (Oliver) or with 10 (Bill)?

Heh heh. Oliver would recognize she was a vampire and make the apprioprate 'stay away' rituals. Bill would hit on her constantly, tell her tales about living on the seat of his pants, and never guess that he was an occasional 'snack.' So, she would pick Bill.

7. 2 (Caera), 7 (Emily) and 12 (Firesign) have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?

Canonically, Caera and Emily are second cousins, so they would catch up on their branches of the family tree. Firesign would flirt with them both and somehow, make each of them feel flattered by the flirting and realize that it is just that. The three are happy to go anywhere with carts of desserts and tea.

8. 3 (Jacob) challenges 10 (Bill) to a duel. What happens?

"Ow! Ow! Stop giving me noogies, Bill, you're fucking fifty-seven-years-old!"

"You started it, wizard boy!"

"Fuck you."

"No."

9. If 1 (Meg) stole 8's (Joe's) most precious possession, how would he get it back?

Meg would never steal anything, unless she thought that the good of the fae and human worlds would be served by taking the object far far away. She wouldn't see any threat that an extensive 60s vinyl collection would pose, unless someone wants it for their own dark purposes. Meg would steal it then, but leave a note to Joe explaining what is going on. Joe would follow her and whine and cajole to get it back.

10. Suggest a title for a story in which 7 (Emily) and 12 (Firesign) both attain what they most desire.

"Woo-hoo, We No Longer Feel Like Mishapen Freaks!"

(Emily is 200 lbs, large-breasted, and self-conscious about it; Lev got polio as a child and walks sometimes with a cane. Most of the time, he can walk unassisted thanks to experimental treatments. One of them gave him his superpowers)

11. What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 (Sam) and 1 (Meg) to work together?

Downed computer network. Meg would give vague answers and hide any evidence of fae workings. Sam wouldn't care and be too focused on fixing the co-axial cables.

12. If 7 (Emily) visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?

Maybe too well. We would be all quiet and read books and yak about mix tape ideas.

13. If you could command 3 (Jacob Magid) to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?

"Play music for me."

14. Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11 (Mala)?

buni_in_the_sky actually did the art work for the comic book Mala is in.

15. If 2 (Caera) had to choose sides between 4 (Sam) and 5 (Christine), which would it be?

Sam and Christine are brutally honest and pragmatic people, and therefore be uncomfortable with Caera. Christine, however, is also deeply spiritual, and would get to know Caera better than Sam would. Caera would choose Christine, then would regret it when Christine decides that she must honor her hungers by draining Caera.

16. What might 10 (Bill Magid) shout while charging into battle?

"Wait until I tell the folks back home how I kicked your asses!"

17. If you chose a song to represent 8 (Joe), which song would you choose?

"White and Nerdy" by Weird Al maybe. "He Is Very Pretty" by Kim Fowley.

18. 1 (Meg), 6 (Binah) and 12 (Firesign) are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?

Binah will conceed quickly. Firesign and Meg would have a 'oh no, you take it' discussion, until one of them decides they are too hungry for that. Then it's Meg's fast fae reflexes versus Firesign's flame projectiles. Since dim sum restaurants do not look kindly on patrons burning things, Meg would get the pancake.

19. What might be a good pick-up line for 2 (Caera) to use on 10 (Bill)?

"Hello."

20. What would 5 (Christine) most likely be arrested for?

Breaking and entering a rare books store or library archives.

21. What is 6's (Binah's) secret?

At age 17, without thinking, she made a lot of very critical annotations to the library copy of "Orientalism". She was never caught, but she has tried to make up for it for donating her already read books.

22. If 11 (Mala) and 9 (Oliver) were racing to a destination, who would get there first?

Oliver has more exercise, but Mala's powers as Death include something I call 'astral teleportation.' Mala would get there faster if only to catch up with herself.

23. 1 (Meg) and 9 (Oliver) reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4's (Sam's) sinister secret organization. 11 (Mala) volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that 11 (Mala) is actually a spy for 4 (Sam). Meanwhile, 4 (Sam) has kidnapped 12 (Firesign) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (Christine), they seek out 3 (Jacob), who gives them what they need to complete their quest." What title would you give this fic? Name three people on your friends list who might read it. Name one person who should write it.

Sam's sinister organization would probably be focused on building a better tomorrow and eliminating pesky gremlins. Unfortunately, Meg's job is to keep the fae and humans from killing each other, and Oliver fears that Sam will unleash something worse. Mala, being a host for an entity dedicated to change and ending, will be very distrustful of anyone who can live for a long time, if not forever. Firesign will be
blackmailed into using his powers against one such pest, the Circle of Thorns. However, that entails lots of collateral damage, making Paragon City unhappy. Christine and Jacob would be there to show Sam how gremlins are needed in the world.

It would be called "Sam vs. The Entire Fae Court, Paragon City, and the Celestials.' buni_in_the_sky, lone_gunfreak, and septembervirgin might read it. I have no idea who would write it.

24. If you had to walk home through a bad neighbourhood late at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 (Emily) or 8 (Joe)?

Emily is self-sacrificing, she would try and protect me, although she is not the best fighter. Joe would run.
