Mar. 29th, 2007 09:22 pmOK, I was in a CVS, and browsed through their in-store magazine about care-takers. One of the articles is about a mother care-taking her young autistic son.
Based on:
1) The first sentence being "They seemed like a typical affluent family, but they were facing every parent's nightmare"
2) Talk about how the Combating Autism Act and how much it would cost to put children into 'homes'
3) No mention of AS teenagers or adults, at least from a brief skimming
4) The mother wearing a freaking puzzle piece pin
Should I write a tirade about making the lives of OMG REAL AUTISTICS harder, like the one getting meds at your store, dammit? Or should I just step away?
I'm trying to step into the shoes of a parent who doesn't understand why the kid is acting this way, but something about the plague rhetoric makes me deeply creeped out.
There is a difference between managing traits and people wanting to erase the whole megillah.
